At The Radclyffe School, every child matters. We are committed to ensuring that all students, regardless of their individual needs or starting points, are supported to thrive and achieve their full potential both academically and personally.
We promote an inclusive culture where differences are respected, barriers to learning are reduced, and all students are empowered to succeed.
Our Inclusive Approach
We believe that all students, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), should have access to a broad, balanced, and ambitious curriculum. Our aim is to develop confident, independent learners who are well prepared for adulthood, including further education, employment, and independent living.
SEND is not a barrier to achievement. Through high-quality teaching, appropriate support, and strong relationships, we ensure that every student is able to participate fully in school life.
Identifying and Supporting SEND
At The Radclyffe School, we follow the graduated approach outlined in the SEND Code of Practice:
- Assess
- Plan
- Do
- Review
Assess: We identify students’ needs through a range of information including prior attainment, teacher assessment, screening, and external reports.
Plan: Appropriate support and outcomes are agreed in collaboration with students, parents/carers, and staff.
Do: Interventions and classroom strategies are implemented and monitored.
Review: Support is reviewed regularly to ensure it remains effective and responsive.
This cyclical process ensures that provision is personalised, evidence-based, and regularly evaluated.
Areas of Need We Support
In line with the SEND Code of Practice, we support students across four broad areas of need:
- Cognition and Learning
- Communication and Interaction
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
- Sensory and/or Physical Needs
Quality First Teaching and Additional Support
High-quality teaching is the first step in responding to SEND. Our teachers are responsible for the progress of all students in their classrooms and adapt their teaching to meet individual needs.
Where additional support is required, this may include:
- Targeted interventions and small group work
- In-class support from trained staff
- Access arrangements (where appropriate)
- Specialist advice from external professionals
- Personalised strategies and reasonable adjustments
We maintain high expectations for all learners and support students to develop independence and resilience.
Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
For students with more complex needs, an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) may be in place. We work closely with families, the Local Authority, and external agencies to ensure provision outlined in the EHCP is effectively delivered and reviewed annually.
Partnership with Parents and Carers
We value strong partnerships with parents and carers. Regular communication ensures that families are involved in decision-making and fully informed about their child’s progress and support.
We also work collaboratively with a range of external professionals, including educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, and medical services, to ensure a holistic approach to support.
Inclusion Beyond the Classroom
All students, including those with SEND, have equal access to:
- A wide range of extracurricular activities
- Educational visits and trips
- Leadership opportunities within school
Reasonable adjustments are made when required, to ensure full participation.
Policies and Legal Duties
Our SEND provision is in line with statutory guidance and legislation, including:
- SEND Code of Practice
- Children and Families Act 2014
- Equality Act 2010
