Supporting Your Child’s Health
At The Radclyffe School, we are committed to supporting the health, wellbeing and attendance of all students.
We have a dedicated Medical Room which is available to students. It is staffed by trained first aid personnel who can support a range of medical needs, including administering prescribed and over the counter medication where appropriate.
Medication in School
All medication must be provided by a parent or carer and handed into the Medical Room for safe storage. It will only be administered in line with written instructions and agreed procedures.
Where medication is required during the school day:
- It must be in its original packaging
- It will be stored securely in the Medical Room
- It will only be administered with written parental consent
We are unable to administer any medication, including pain relief, without a completed consent form.
Completed forms should be returned to the school along with any medication.
Parents and carers are responsible for ensuring that any required medication is provided and kept up to date, particularly for long-term medical conditions.
For full details, please refer to our Medical Conditions, Intimate Care and First Aid Policy.
Download a copy of the consent form here. Paper copies can be collected from school.
Asthma
Students with asthma should carry their inhaler with them at all times. A spare inhaler should also be kept in school, and consent must be in place to allow access when needed.
Changes to Medical Needs
We understand that children’s medical needs can change over time. We ask parents and carers to keep the school informed so that records and care plans remain accurate.
Outdated information can lead to unnecessary restrictions. For example, students may be unable to attend trips if records show a condition such as asthma, but no inhaler is available in school. Keeping us informed helps avoid this.
Any changes to treatment or medication will require an updated, consented healthcare plan.
Injuries Outside of School
While we have strong first aid provision in school, our staff are trained first aiders and not healthcare professionals.
We can provide first aid, contact parents or carers, and call emergency services where necessary. However, students should not attend school with injuries sustained at home that require ongoing first aid treatment.
Thank you for your support in helping us care for your child’s health and wellbeing.
